About
This Is How We Build: Smarter, cleaner, circular — at every stage
The Southern Lakes is one of the fastest-growing regions in Aotearoa and with that growth comes responsibility. The way we build today will shape our environment, our communities, and our resilience for generations to come.
This Is How We Build is a call to action for the entire building ecosystem from builders and site managers to architects, designers, suppliers, developers, council, and clients. Because building better isn’t the responsibility of one role, it’s a system-wide shift.
Together, we have the opportunity to rethink how we design, construct, and operate buildings, reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, lowering long-term costs, and creating spaces that are healthier, more resilient, and built to last.
Why this matters:
Environmental protection
Reducing waste
Climate resiliency
Energy efficiency
Longer lasting buildings = less maintenance/upkeep costs
Saved or reduced costs
This Is How We Build introduces a six-part training series designed to support this shift guiding the industry through every stage of better building:
Why Care
Circular Economy 101
Integrated Design
Pre-Planning and Materials Matter
On-Site
Post-Build
Each module includes a short training film, practical resources, and tools to help you learn, apply, and embed better building practices into your work.
The modules will be released progressively throughout 2026, alongside live events and webinars — creating opportunities to connect, learn, and build momentum across the sector.
This is about more than knowledge. It’s about action, alignment, and long-term change.
Be part of the movement.
Sign up to the Better Building Working Group (BBWG) newsletter to receive each training module as it’s released — and take your place in shaping how we build, together.
