“We Didn’t Start The Fire” ...

Written in the 1930s, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui charts the corrupt and manipulative gangster Arturo Ui rising to power in Chicago’s vegetable trade. The play exposes what happens when ordinary people, rival businesses, and corrupt fellow politicians enable tyranny by failing to resist it, and shows what happens when power trumps all.

This year marks the 50 year anniversary of the Year 11 Play, with the first performance in 1976, and it is the longest running cultural event at the College.

Tickets on sale from 8am on 1st June 2026.
