A Message from Festival Director Eric Stern

Hello! As you may know, EJC proudly hosted many of the lively concerts and workshops for Bubbaville’s Portland Klezmer Festival last year. Partnering with Bubbaville and Co/Lab is a real joy, so I was delighted when Bubbaville tapped EJC to take over the festival this year, with Co/Lab’s co-sponsorship.

In thinking about the festival, I realized that while Klezmer is a lynchpin of our Jewish musical heritage, why not also showcase other genres? So this year, we are adding Sephardic/Mizrachi music and even concerts combining these genres with Flamenco music to celebrate the shared heritage of the Iberian Peninsula.

And so, the Portland Klezmer Festival has now become the Portland Jewish Music Festival and expanded to TWO exciting weekends with concerts, lectures, workshops, and more beginning Thursday, May 8!

We’re putting the finishing touches on the festival, so keep checking here and on our website (ejcpdx.org) as we add artists and events to bring you the best of what Jewish music has to offer at EJC’s Portland Jewish Music Festival.

A full schedule will be out soon.
