The Embodied Mama

Music and movement for mums and babies and/or kiddies

Motherhood can have us living almost entirely in our heads. It’s taxing, to put it nicely.

Planning, anticipating, remembering, worrying, constantly scanning, keeping everyone alive… all while remembering that you’re down to your last roll of toilet paper and baby Isla’s last punnet of blueberries.

The Embodied Mama is an opportunity to drop out of your head and come back into your body—through music and movement, with your children right there with you.

It sounds simple. And it is. But it is also an incredibly deep practice.

This simple concept sits underneath widely accepted practices like yoga and meditation. The Embodied Mama is just one very accessible expression of it.

Because underneath all of that thinking, planning and scanning, our bodies are communicating with us all day long, trying to tell us what we need.

Sometimes it is something very obvious, like noticing you need to go to the toilet before you are busting!

Sometimes it is much quieter.

It might be the feeling in your body that says, “I really want to say no,” while your mouth is preparing to say yes because you feel obligated.

Or it might be an inner yes to something you genuinely want, even though making it happen means asking for help, leaning on your support systems and allowing yourself to receive.

The more connected you become to your body, the clearer those messages become about what your needs are, and eventually, you can get to a place where you honour them.

The practice of living more in your body can begin with something as simple as putting on music and moving.

The movement itself is the medicine.

You do not need to know how to dance.

In fact, I use the word “dance” cautiously. It is more about noticing how the energy wants to move through your body, and how you want to move intuitively.

You do not need to be good at meditation or know how to quiet your mind.

That is what I am there to help you practise.

And your children are welcome because their presence is not separate from the work.

It is the work.

You might be listening to the music and reconnecting with your body while also watching your toddler crawl around and making sure they do not destroy something.

You might be holding your baby, feeding them, settling them, laughing, swaying, stretching, resting, or changing your movement completely because your child needs you.

That is real motherhood.

The practice is not about creating perfect calm.

It is learning how to stay connected to yourself while life is still happening around you.

This class is a chance to carve out some space in your day for yourself, but it is also about building a skill you can take home.

Moving the body actually does some of the heavy lifting of processing emotions.

And when your body begins to feel heard, honoured and listened to, your nervous system gets the opportunity to take one big exhale.

Your children feel that too.

Sometimes they may reflect the shift back to you positively through their behaviour before you have even realised that something in you feels different.

By showing up for The Embodied Mama, you are using your body, music and movement to practise several of the teachings from The 7 Pillars of Motherhood, my signature framework.

These sessions are not about leaving motherhood at home.

They are about practising how to stay connected to yourself while you are right in the middle of it.

Come exactly as you are.
Tender. Tired. Touched out. Full-hearted. However you arrive -- you are most welcome here.
