Teen Crash Avoidance Class

The South Metro Safety Foundation Teen Crash Avoidance Class gives young drivers ages 15–22 hands-on experience designed to build confidence, improve vehicle control, and develop safer driving habits. Students must have a learner’s permit or driver’s license and should have at least two months of driving experience before attending.

This one-day course goes beyond traditional driver education by putting students behind the wheel in a controlled training environment. Drivers practice important real-world skills including threshold braking, emergency crash avoidance, skid control and recovery, defensive driving techniques, and the effects of distraction and impairment. South Metro Safety Foundation -

We finish the class with one of its most unique experiences: winter driving practice—even in the middle of summer—using the South Metro Safety Foundation SKIDCAR. The SKIDCAR system allows instructors to reduce vehicle traction on a dry training surface, giving students the opportunity to safely experience and practice controlling understeer, oversteer, and slippery-road conditions without waiting for snow or ice.

The goal is simple: give young drivers practical skills and experience they can draw on when something unexpected happens on the road.

Class highlights include:

  • Hands-on, behind-the-wheel training

  • Threshold and emergency braking

  • Crash avoidance maneuvers

  • Defensive driving and vehicle control

  • Skid control and recovery

  • Distracted and impaired driving exercises

  • SKIDCAR winter-driving experience in any season

The class is $180, and students who successfully complete the course and required essay may qualify for an $80 scholarship refund.
