About the Exhibition

Simple Food Matters presents 30 original artworks created exclusively for Refettorio OzHarvest, transforming the humble ingredients of daily sustenance into powerful portraits of nourishment and community.

UK-born, Sydney-based artist Jules Forth elevates the fruits, vegetables, and basic foods rescued and transformed by OzHarvest into subjects worthy of contemplation. Each painting honours the ingredients that form the heart of Refettorio's kitchen - where rescued food becomes beautiful, nourishing meals served with dignity to those in need.

"In past still-life exhibitions I have revelled in the colours and textures of the subject matter," says Forth. "But in Simple Food Matters, the objects have taken on a deeper meaning. They are the bridge to the people who eat at Refettorio OzHarvest Sydney."

About the Artist

Jules Forth brings a rich foundation in art history and classical technique to her contemporary practice. After earning her BA Honours in History of Art from Manchester University, she trained extensively in Sydney under masters including Frank Giacco at the Julian Ashton School of Art, David Eastwood and Ian Greig at the National Art School, and completed three years studying Old Master techniques in oils at Charlie Sheard Art School.

Her work has been recognized with multiple prizes including the Mosman Art Prize (five times), Waverley Art Prize, Mortimer Art Prize, and most recently a finalist in the Little Things Art Prize 2025. She has exhibited throughout Sydney and the UK, with work held in private collections internationally.

Forth's connection to OzHarvest began in 2022 when she donated Australian Harvest, which now proudly hangs at Refettorio OzHarvest - a fitting home for work that celebrates the beauty and generosity of food.

Supporting OzHarvest

All proceeds from sales will be donated to OzHarvest, Australia's leading food rescue organization. Refettorio OzHarvest Sydney is an innovative social impact project run by OzHarvest, where vulnerable guests are welcome to enjoy a free restaurant-quality meal at lunchtime prepared by professional chefs using rescued ingredients - served by volunteers with dignity, beauty, and care.
