About
Kinship is home to Victoria’s first Earthship and a growing community of social, cultural and ecological enterprises.
Designed using the ecological principles and practices of biotecture and permaculture, the Kinship Earthship is being built to withstand bushfire and extreme weather events. When complete, Kinship will be the home for a neighbourhood of nine buildings that are self-sustaining for electricity, water, sewage and food.
The vision is for Kinship to be home to a Natural Building School, Bush Mechanics Institute, a venue for community-led adult education programs, accommodation for weekend retreats, spaces for artists and performers, and facilities to provide respite for people living with a disability and their carers.
Kinship is being built by community, for community.
In the first half of 2025, we’ll be embarking on the final stage of completing our combined Global Model Earthship build and Solar-Passive Mud-Brick House Biotecture retrofit (which you can learn a little more about here).
In April, we’ll start work on our Restorative Permaculture Healing Garden. In May, we’ll be starting the build for Australia’s first Bush Mechanics Institute. Toward the end of winter, we’ll be launching our Natural Building School.
Please join us for one of our Natural Building Workshops, Tours or events listed here and be part of making this one-of-a-kind community project a reality.
