VCE Conservatoirum Experience Day

Students and teachers can enjoy live performances of VCE syllabus repertoire by our talented teaching staff, take part in masterclasses, and dive into the finer details of their pieces—exploring techniques, tackling challenges, and learning new approaches. Students interested in Jazz & Improvisation will have the chance to join workshops and explore different aspects of this exciting genre.

Jazz and Improvisation Winter Day Camp

High school aged instrumentalists and vocalists in years 9-12 spend a week on campus to develop their playing, skill set and creativity when approaching Jazz music and exploring Improvisation. The week of tuition is supported by a range of staff from the Jazz and Improvisation department at the Melbourne Conservatoirum of Music and covers a variety of sectional workshops and learning labs.

Jazz and Improvisation Mega Day

Instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages, abilities and walks of life to come experience a free day at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music! Participants will engage in large and small workshops, meet with like-minded musicians and perform some incredible music together. The mega day will finish with a Jazz & Improvisation Showcase Concert featuring students and staff of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.

Gender Defying Jazz

Gender Defying Jazz (GDJ) provides a safe learning environment and community for female identifying, transgender, and non-binary musicians interested in exploring jazz and improvisation. Workshop sessions cover foundational theory, exploration of improvisation and a repertoire of standards and contemporary Australian jazz music. You then perform at the Jazzlab as part of the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival (MWIJF) in December.
