Just steps from the surf at Avalon Beach, an hour north of Sydney, Bookoccino is a community cultural hub and one of Australia’s most distinctive independent bookstores - a gathering place for ideas, writers and readers of every age.
At the heart of what we do is bringing together local, regional and international voices - from emerging writers to bestselling authors and journalists - for lively, thoughtful conversations about books, ideas and the world around us. Our events offer the Northern Beaches community access to some of the most engaging literary minds and public thinkers working today.
Founded in 1992 as “a bookstore for people who really enjoy books,” that spirit still defines us. Owned by former New York Times foreign correspondent and author Raymond Bonner, our shelves hold more than 10,000 carefully curated titles across fiction, politics, history, art, food and children’s literature.
Our events have featured leading Australian and international writers including - Geraldine Brooks, Richard Flanagan, Richard Fidler, Julia Baird, Viet Thanh Nguyen, Trent Dalton, Richard Walsh and Lionel Shriver.
Bookoccino is proudly a computer-free bookstore and café - a small rebellion in favour of conversation, curiosity and the simple pleasure of reading.
