Who Are We?
Blueback Freediving & Yoga is a Boorloo - Perth and Walyalup - Fremantle ocean community bringing together freediving, yoga, breathwork and a love of Western Australia’s coastal world.
Led by Tania Douthwaite, we offer supportive, small-group learning that helps people build confidence in the water, find calm and develop a deeper connection with the ocean and each other.
Our Community Days, listed on Humanitix, bring that spirit to life: a beach walk, morning breath practices, a supervised buddy freedive, then breakfast and stories beside the sea. They’re a chance to meet local ocean lovers, find freedive buddies and enjoy time together in our home waters. Bring your curiosity, a flask of something warm and breakfast treats to share. Advance registration is essential, with membership, participation requirements and any fees explained in the Community Day listing for the upcoming session.
If you’re new to freediving—or simply new to WA and looking for your people—we can help you find a comfortable starting point. Our approach gives you time to learn, ask questions and develop skills with professional guidance. Beginners can start with studio breathwork and pool foundations, progress into open water, or settle into a whole season of learning through our Learn to Freedive programs. Newcomers joining Community Days should check the registration and medical requirements; uncertified participants need the supervision arrangements described in the listing.
Beyond your first dive, there are opportunities to build friendships through regular training, ocean adventures, community campouts and retreats. Our community activities also connect with underwater filmmaking, marine citizen science and care for sea country—a welcoming way to explore WA’s ocean culture through shared experiences and respect for the places we visit. Explore our community activities through Blueback’s website.
