About

What is batyr? 🐘

batyr (pronounced buh-tier) is a preventative youth mental health organisation that aims to spark life-changing conversations, amplifies lived experience, and empowers students to take charge of their mental health.

We share mental health stories that inspire action, reaching young people early and often with the tools and confidence they need to look after themselves and each other before a mental health crisis.

Beginning a partnership with Swinburne University in 2025, batyr delivers peer-to-peer mental health education programs, student-led events and student volunteering opportunities.

What is a batyr@uni program?

We know how difficult it can be to start the conversation about mental health, even with those closest to you. It can be hard to find the words, the “right” time or push past the stigma, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. At batyr, we’re not afraid to give the elephant in the room a voice, and empower you with the tools to do the same.

batyr’s programs aren’t your typical mental health sessions. Delivered through a peer-to-peer model by our trained team of young and enthusiastic facilitators, they’re run by people who actually get it.

batyr’s programs are designed to help students navigate the ups and downs of uni life.

During the programs, they learn how to look out for the signs and symptoms of mental ill-health in themselves and others, and hear from a young person who’s overcome mental ill-health. batyr’s programs are designed and proven to reduce mental health stigma and increase help-seeking.
